If you don’t plan on seeing absolutely everything then this is enough time to get around and see the sites.
Your first stop should be the Independence Visitor centre to grab a free map, phlash bus schedule and maybe some info on transport around the city…we were lucky and for some reason on the Wednesday we were sightseeing the Phlash was free, but normally its $5 for a day pass, and it stops at all the major sites between 10am-6pm.
We got into Philadelphia on an afternoon, so after getting our bearings we decided to walk the main stretch of the city first after getting the info from Visitor centre…within a 6 block circuit for FREE you can do:
US Mint…no photos, can’t take photos inside and forgot to get one of building!
Federal Reserve Bank…was closed for a security drill when we went, so couldn’t go in.
Grave of Benjamin Franklin-flick a penny onto it…apparently its a local thing to do

Franklins Printing Office, with free demonstration of how things worked if there is enough people…you need to walk down the alley to the right of the office frontage, once in the alley head right and around a corner is the entrance tucked away

Look at Independence Halls- You can get tickets but you need to line up at the visitor centre at 8:30am each morning as its 1st in 1st Served and they sell out fast. We decided to skip this as we had other plans for the morning.

Washington Square- Tomb of the Unknown Solider of the American Revolution, also buried on that land is the bodies of many soldiers who lost their lives in the revolutionary war.

IF you are up for a little bit further you can head to Elfrth’s Alley which is the original street from 1702, blink and you will miss this.

From there go and check out Benjamin Franklin Bridge

There is also the Museum of Art..which I didn’t go into but I did stop at the next stop which is the infamous Rocky staircase/raised arms movie moment

BUT my all time favorite part of Philadelphia was the Eastern State Penitentiary, this does cost $16 ($14 if you use the $2 off voucher from the back of the flyer you can get at the visitors centre)…this place will require a few hours to venture…Al Capone’s cell, stories of inmates and how the prison worked, you get an audio guide when you enter to help with info…so creepy and awesome.
